Under Section 9 of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, interim measures of protection granted by a court do not automatically lapse upon pronouncement of an arbitral award; such measures survive and remain operative through the interregnum between the award and its enforcement under Section 36, provided the original prayer expressly extended until enforcement. As analysed on casestatus.in, the scope and duration of Section 9 relief is co-extensive with the terms of the applicant's prayer, and courts retain jurisdiction to modulate such interim arrangements pending challenge proceedings under Section 34.
