2. The second respondent is the first informant. The
first appellant and the second respondent are the husband
and wife. The second appellant is the father-in-law of the
second respondent. The third appellant is the sister-in-law
of the second respondent. The fourth appellant is the
husband of the third appellant and the fifth appellant is
the brother-in-law of the second respondent. On the basis
of the First Information Report lodged at the instance of
the second respondent, investigation was carried out and
charge-sheet has been filed as against the appellants for
the offences punishable under Sections 498A, 325, 354, 504,
506 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860
(for short, ‘the IPC’) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry
Prohibition Act, 1961. We may note here that notice has

been issued only in so far as the second to fifth
appellants are concerned.

for the parties, we have perused the statements of material
