Leave granted.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (“CBI”, for short) has

filed these appeals seeking to be relieved of the direction imposed

upon it to apprehend the absconding-accused and to produce him

before the High Court, by handing over the case to the Director,

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi for the purpose of

tracking the accused. By the impugned orders dated 04.10.2023

passed in PIL No.9 of 2015, the High Court of Manipur issued the

aforesaid direction with the time-frame of three months from the

date of receipt of the said order.

In response to the aforesaid direction, the appellant (CBI)

appeared before the Division Bench of the High Court of Manipur on

10.01.2024 and submitted that they were not impleaded as a party in

the proceedings and therefore, virtually submitted to the Court

that the direction dated 04.10.2023 would be difficult for them to

comply with. However, the said submission was not accepted by the

High Court and further eight weeks time was granted to the CBI to

trace the absconding-convict and produce him before the Court.
