Under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, a landowner entitled to compensation is also entitled to receive statutory interest on the aggregate awarded amount, including solatium, and not merely on the base compensation; a High Court cannot curtail such interest by applying a prospective date contrary to the Reference Court's award.
